Book Review: Approval Junkie by Faith Salie

Faith Salie is not a familiar name to me. The title of the book is what caught my eye and I felt that I just HAD to read it. I was pretty bummed out when I started it. Being a trooper I figured I would finish the book and see if I was maybe being a bit critical. My expectations did not line with reality when I continuously turned pages. With a few humorous lines and some personal information revealed it felt more like the stories people rehash over and over and you pretend you never heard them. What I mean is most of it did not speak to the given title of the book. The chapters that were based around her ex-husband, which is referred to as her 'wasband' in the book, are more or less what I thought I would be reading chapter after chapter. Not necessarily all about him but all of the ways in which she sought out approval.

All in all - I would say that learning about who she is and her accomplishments, as well as Faith's journey to becoming a parent was the most rewarding part of reading the book. The least was trying to put yourself in her head to understand where her "approval junkie" self were in the stories. It may have been my fault as the reader but I had a hard time finding that in most of the book.

I don't necessarily recommend the book but I also do not NOT recommend the book.
